Morrisons makes huge change to checkouts to tackle 1 critical issue | UK | News

Morrisons is making a significant change to its checkout page to solve a critical issue. The major supermarket has introduced New Talking Tills, which will be open from Thursday 4 December until Sunday 7 December.

The Talking Tills is available in Morrisons stores across the UK. offer customers the opportunity to spend extra time and interact at checkouts a cheerful or meaningful conversation with store personnel.

The initiative is in collaboration with Good Morning Britain’s ‘1 Million Minutes’ campaign, which asks people to donate their time rather than money to combat loneliness. Loneliness is a common experience that affects many people in the UK.

Going to the supermarket may be one of the few opportunities a person has to talk to another person.

Through its 1 Million Minutes campaign, Talking Tills aims to make everyday moments like grocery shopping more supportive and social for people. The supermarket, now in its tenth year, has committed to over 672 million minutes.

Morrisons has also contributed £50,000 as part of its wider commitment to tackling loneliness by funding 100 festive packages from the Royal Voluntary Service and offering 400 free Christmas meals in Morrisons cafes in partnership with Age UK.

David Scott, corporate affairs director at Morrisons, said: “Supporting the communities we serve at Morrisons is at the heart of what we do. We know that for many people, especially at this time of year, a simple conversation can make a real difference.

“The Talking Tills campaign is designed to create space for these meaningful moments and offer customers the chance to slow down and chat if they want.”

Good Morning Britain editor Daniel Robinson said: “In the 10 years since we launched our 1 Million Minutes campaign, we’ve brought together thousands of volunteers with thousands of people experiencing loneliness and isolation across the UK. “This year feels more urgent than ever, with rising prices in shops and pressure on families, it’s easy to feel disconnected.

“We all know what it feels like to feel alone. And whether it’s a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger, committing to just a few minutes of your time can really make a difference. Our viewers have been incredibly generous with their time over the years, and I know this December will be something truly special.”
