Australia Post theft in Melbourne prompts alert to superannuation members
A pension fund warned 1.1 million members that thieves’ personal or financial information may be in the hands of criminals after stealing mail from the Australian Melbourne GPO boxes of the Australian post.
Mercer Super, who also directed Virgin Money Super, gave a warning to its members on Wednesday after learning that some members who sent mail to the Melbourne GPO box in July were impressed.
A Australian post office on Bourke Street, Melbourne was moved four times.
The Australia Post confirmed that four times between 6 and 17 July is “aware of the unauthorized access and theft of some mail articles ve and confirmed that Victoria Police was investigating.
“It is believed that the criminals or criminals have entered the building four times, the goods stole from inside. The arrest was not made at this stage and the investigation continues at this stage,” he said.
A Australian mail spokesman said that thieves entered a mailing area behind the post office on 6 Southern Cross Lane escaped from Bourke Street.
“The criminals were able to force the entrance to the back of a house used to sort the post and distribute letters to the PO boxes three times, and the fourth place left immediately when he was deterred with additional security measures,” he said.
“Criminals caused significant damage to the entrance to the repaired facility and additional security measures were given after each break.”
