Woman dies after being stabbed in the neck in Birmingham on Friday night

A 34-year-old woman died after being stabbed in the neck in Birmingham on Friday night, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, 21, was charged in connection with the incident and remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.

The woman was fighting for her life after suffering a “serious neck injury” and was taken to hospital shortly before 9pm. An application will be made to amend the charges to reflect the victim’s death.

In a statement, police said: “Our thoughts are with his loved ones and specially trained investigators are supporting his family.”

The Home Secretary said he was “shocked” by the incident and said his “thoughts are with the victim, his family and friends”.

Police have appealed for anyone to come forward with any further information about the attack or the movements of Rafael, who they believe was wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and backpack on Friday evening.
