MP Govt Set In Motion Process To Implement UCC, Special Session Of House May Be Convened To Pass Bill

-Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated the process of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, official sources said on Wednesday.

Sources said the state home ministry was directed by chief minister Mohan Yadav to prepare the draft UCC bill for approval by his cabinet.

Sources said the state government plans to implement the UCC by the end of the year.

Sources said Mr. Yadav dropped hints of the move to implement UCC in the state when he asked his ministerial colleagues to study the UCC law passed in the BJP-ruled states of Uttarakhand and Gujarat and present their suggestions in the cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.

Sources said a special session of Parliament may be convened to pass the proposed UCC bill.

Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had constituted a committee to examine the implementation of UCC in MP in 2022 when he was the chief minister.

However, the move to implement the UCC was not successful at that time.
