MP- Historical Alamgir Darwaza, ASI-Protected Site, In Mandu Hit By Container Truck, Damaged

– What happened? A container truck, “misled” by GPS (Global Positioning System) on Tuesday, got stuck and damaged the walls of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)-protected historical site of Alamgir Darwaza, the tourist hub of Mandu in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, police said.
According to the police, the 50 ft long, 9 ft wide and 20 ft high container truck got stuck at Alamgir Darwaza while passing through the gate of Mandu town.
Police said the container truck was lifted with the help of a crane, which damaged a part of the Alamgir Darwaza wall.
Mandu police station in-charge Dinesh Verma along with a police team reached the spot to adjust the crane to lift the container truck stuck at the gate.
Police said it took around six hours to remove the container truck from Alamgir Darwaza.
Police said ASI was informed about the incident.
Pintu, the driver of the truck, claimed that he was misled by the GPS and drove the vehicle to the area.
Alamgir Darwaza is one of the 12 historical entrance gates that served as the main eastern entrance to the ancient fort city of Mandu.
Named after the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (Alamgir), this majestic gate represents the formidable defensive architecture of the fort complex and serves as a major tourist entry point.
Located on the east side, this gate is one of the first major gates on the road to central Mandu.
Alamgir Darwaza was an integral part of the comprehensive defense system of the Mandu fort, known as the largest fort in India.
The gate has a solid, traditional structure, reflecting Mandu’s strategic importance under Mughal influence.
