Cold wave grips North India, dense fog to continue for another week

The temperature in Delhi is expected to range between 7 and 19 degrees Celsius on Monday.

States in northern India will remain under a thick blanket of fog as the intense cold continues to grip the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog will prevail in the morning and night hours in north and central India for the next seven days. IMD has issued a cold day warning for Monday, January 5, for parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar and western Madhya Pradesh.

IMD also said that a cold wave is expected to come to the city of Chandigarh, as well as the states of Punjab and Haryana, from Monday. The IMD has forecast mostly clear skies for the capital Delhi on Monday but said shallow fog was likely in many parts of the city. According to the meteorological office, the temperature in Delhi is expected to range between 7 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius on Monday. Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi improved slightly and the overall reading fell into the ‘poor’ category at 248 on Sunday morning (January 4).

Rain and snow warning

Devendra Tripathi, weather expert and founder of Mausam Tak, said: “Tomorrow, January 5, there may be some clouds in the evening hours in the mountains of North India between Kashmir and Uttarakhand,” India Today reported. He added that there is a possibility of light snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and “very high altitudes of Uttarakhand in the evening.”
