Murder arrest after student found dead in University of Lancashire accommodation

A man has been arrested following the death of a student in accommodation at the University of Lancashire.
Lancashire Constabulary said 19-year-old Carla Georgescu was found dead at her home in Victoria Street, Preston, on Thursday afternoon.
Police teams went to the address upon a report of “sudden death”, which was considered suspicious.
A 34-year-old man known to Ms. Georgescu was arrested and remains in custody.
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
A spokesman said: “We know the news of this young woman’s death and police activity will concern many people, but we want to tell you that we have a team of detectives and uniformed officers working hard to identify and determine the circumstances.”

The University of Lancashire said on social media: “As a University community we are shocked and saddened by this loss and are working closely with the police to support their ongoing investigations.
“Our thoughts are with Carla-Maria’s loved ones, her friends and everyone who knew her at this incredibly sad time.”
