Murder charges after stabbing at child’s first birthday

A fight at a child’s first birthday celebration resulted in two deaths and a stabbing suspect charged with double murder.
Emergency services were called to a home in Clyde North, in Melbourne’s outer south-east, following reports of a fight on the night of January 16.
The police said that the argument that broke out when about 20 people were at the birthday party at home turned into a fight and spread to the street.
Two men, aged 23 and 54, were found stabbed in the upper body.
The duo was intervened by medical teams and died at the scene.
A 30-year-old homeless defendant was arrested in Doveton, south-east of Melbourne, on Tuesday and charged with two counts of murder after being interviewed.
Police said the people involved knew each other.
The defendant has been taken into custody and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
