Murder investigation launched after man shot dead in north-west London

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was shot dead in London last night.

The 55-year-old victim died at the scene in West End Close, Brent Stonebridge, despite efforts by police and paramedics to save his life.

Officers were called at 9.35pm on Friday night but no arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, from the Met’s specialist crime team, said: “There is no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and wider, but we have increased patrols in the area.

“I would like to reassure the public that our investigation is a priority.”

They said no further injuries were reported and police were providing support to the victim’s next of kin.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time,” he added.

DCI John said: “Inquiries are ongoing and my team is working rapidly to establish the circumstances that led to this man’s tragic death.”

Police closed the A404 Brentfield from Twybridge Road to Wyborne Road on Saturday. A forensic tent could be seen inside the cordon.

Forensic teams joined police with search dogs at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

Labour’s Brent East MP Dawn Butler said she was “devastated to hear about the shooting in Stonebridge” and urged anyone with information to contact police.

The police understand that a large group of people were gathering nearby at the time and want to hear from them.
