William Bordsen, 40, was arrested on first-degree murder charges in July, but managed to get away in just three days.

Police said the man beat 65-year-old Robert Murphy to death in his east Charlotte apartment. He claims Murphy was drunk and started the fight. Prosecutors on Friday said that wasn’t true, that toxicology showed Murphy was not drunk and that cellphone video showed Bordsen recorded himself taunting Murphy as he lay on his deathbed. For these reasons, his son Ryan Murphy said Bordsen should never have been allowed out of prison. Channel 9’s Glenn Counts reached him by phone.

“To brutalize someone, to beat them close to death, not even to death, but to the point where they’re making noises on the ground, and this guy takes out his phone and takes a video of my dad. That’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Ryan Murphy said.

Bordsen remains in jail without bail.

Although the family is happy with this situation, they are worried that this may change in the future.
