Musk predicted to become world’s first trillionaire by 2030 | World | News

The world could soon be dominated by a Trillionaires’ Club of ‘wealth elites’ boasting ’12 zeros’ each, a new book has suggested. Kamal Ahmed, researcher and former editor-in-chief of BBC News, predicts that Elon Musk, chairman of SpaceX, Tesla, X and xAI, will become the world’s first trillionaire in 2027.
Ahmed predicts that there may be at least seven ultra-rich individuals by 2030, and that number could rise to 30 by 2050. In his upcoming book, The Trillionaires: Power and Influence in the New Era of Hyper-Wealth, Ahmed argues that as democracies falter, these multi-billionaires may be able to exert power on a global scale.
He said: “A trillion is a number so big it almost defies explanation, and if someone can say with all honesty that it’s ‘worth a trillion’, it’s time to sit up and take notice. We need a new understanding of the role of hyper-wealth, good and bad, in the world around us and how it affects the rules by which millions of people live,” he said, the Daily Star reports.
His book explores the ‘increasing political influence of the 12 zero’ club’. According to industry publication The Bookseller, Ahmed “explores how new ‘rich elites’ wield power in a world where today’s billionaires throw wedding parties so lavish that they disrupt national economies, their ‘best day ever’ can include a trip to space, and where they can direct government policy with just a phone call to the president.”
The report continues: “Ahmed predicts that we will see history’s first trillionaire within a few years – likely Elon Musk in 2027.” Reflect the USA.
“There could be at least seven by 2030 and 30 by 2050. As democratic institutions weaken, hyper-wealth now holds power on a global scale.”
Rowan Cope, who represented Profile Books, which secured the publishing rights, said: “It is extraordinary to think that the world’s richest individuals are set to become richer than some Western nation-states.”
“With his prestigious background in political and economic journalism, Kamal is the perfect writer to tackle the deepening impact of wealth on our democracies. “The Profile is proud and excited to publish Trillionaires.”
Musk currently has a net worth of £376bn, according to Forbes, which publishes its own wealth rankings.
By contrast, his fortune was recorded at a relatively modest £1.5 billion in 2012.
The South African-born businessman announced that the 2021 tax bill reached an estimated £9 billion following the sale of Tesla shares.
He has held the title of the world’s wealthiest individual for the last four years and served as US President Donald Trump’s cost-cutting advisor between January and May.
