The Cleveland Browns were hoping to complete their first winning streak of the season on Sunday after a dominant performance in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins, but the New England Patriots had something else on their mind.

Cleveland again struggled offensively in a 32-13 loss against New England in Massachusetts; Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw two interceptions and two touchdowns in a 21-point loss for New England that appeared close until the third quarter.

Brown’s All-Pro linebacker Myles Garrett had a dazzling individual performance, earning five sacks on quarterback Drake Maye.

But he doesn’t care what Garrett does when the Browns’ record is 2-6. He’s tired of hearing the same questions after game week after week about the offense not backing up great defensive performances.

“It doesn’t get any easier every week you ask me,” Garrett responded to a reporter’s question on the subject.

“I would throw away the whole performance to win.”

Garrett’s performance was a franchise record, as no Browns player had ever recorded five sacks in a single game. But instead of celebrating a great day at the line of scrimmage, the Browns were seen slamming their helmet on the ground in frustration on the sideline.

Garrett’s second sack of the day set a new bar for pass rushers under the age of 30, reaching 108.5 points, surpassing Reggie White for the record. to cleveland.com.

Garrett’s talent is undeniable, but he made it clear this offseason that the chance to compete for the Super Bowl is what drives him.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for the Browns’ star offensive lineman, which began with him requesting a trade in February after another lackluster campaign in 2024. Garrett was seeking a contract extension at the time.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl, and that goal motivates me today more than ever,” he said in a statement. “My love for the Northeast Ohio community and the incredible fan base of the Cleveland Browns made this one of the most difficult decisions of my life. The past eight years have shaped me into the man I am today.

“While I love calling this city home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages does not allow me to remain complacent. The goal has never been to go from Cleveland to Canton; it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”

Browns GM Andrew Berry was adamant he didn’t want to trade Garrett, and about a month later, both sides agreed to a massive four-year extension worth $123 million, a record at the time of the signing. According to his agent, Garrett “changed his mind” and was determined to help the Browns move forward in hopes of bringing a Vince Lombardi trophy to Cleveland.
