A knife-wielding man remains at large after police say a man in his 60s was approached from behind and stabbed on a public golf course footpath. Just before 7pm on Thursday, May 14, police rushed to Stafford Castle golf course on Newport Road in Staffordshire after the victim was found on a bench by a member of the public.

He was walking down Redgrave Drive in the Castlefields area towards Stafford Castle when the horrific incident occurred. The man remains in a critical condition in hospital, while specialist police continue to support him and his family. Staffordshire Police described the suspect as a man in his mid-to-late 20s, possibly of Eastern European descent, of average build and dressed in dark clothing.

Police have now renewed their appeal and are urging anyone who was in the Castlefields area between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday, May 14, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

Reassuring the public, the police force said it was “working day and night” to investigate the serious attack, adding that it was aware of the impact such incidents had on society and “took this extremely seriously”.

Police investigating the incident are conducting house-to-house investigations, extensive searches and forensic investigations in the region.

Neighborhood forces are also assisting in the investigation.

Detective Inspector Dave Rowlands said: “I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to identify and arrest those responsible.

“A significant police operation is ongoing, including increased patrols in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.

“We are committed to keeping the public informed and keeping our community safe. Your information is vital to our investigation, and even the smallest detail can make a difference.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Newport Road. An ambulance, a paramedic, a MERIT trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance Intensive Care Vehicle attended the scene.

“On arrival we encountered one patient, a male. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further treatment.”
