Trump deflects Xi’s ‘declining nation’ jibe | Politics | News

In his post on Truth Social on Friday, May 15, the US President claimed that Xi’s statements referred to a period when the country suffered “tremendous damage” before returning to the White House.
“President Xi was not talking about the incredible rise of the United States to the world during the 16 glorious months of the Trump administration,” the president boasted on the social media site.
He shared: “When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps a country in decline, he was referring to Sleepy Joe Biden and the tremendous damage we have suffered during the four years of the Biden Administration, and in that respect he was 100% right.
“Our country has suffered immeasurably with open borders, high taxes, transgenderism for all, men in women’s sports, DEI, terrible trade deals, rampant crime, and so much more!”
The US President went on to talk about what he saw as ‘successes’ under his leadership, noting “improving relations in Venezuela” and the “military destruction of Iran” would “continue”.
This post came after the two held high-stakes two-hour talks on Thursday. During these talks, Xi said that if the Tawi issue is “properly addressed”, “bilateral relations will be generally stabilized”.
The Chinese leader added: “Otherwise, there will be clashes and even clashes between the two countries, which will put the entire relationship in great danger.”
However, despite Xi’s harsh warning, Trump’s post in the early hours stated that the Chinese leader “congratulated me on such great achievements achieved in such a short time.”
He added: “Two years ago we were essentially a country in decline. I completely agree with President Xi on this! But now the US is the warmest country anywhere in the world, and I hope our relationship with China will be stronger and better than ever!”
