Hero couple tried to stop gunman before being killed in Bondi attack

Dramatic footage shows a couple killed in a Bondi Beach shooting as one of their alleged attackers tried to stop him by grabbing his gun.

In their statement, their families said that 69-year-old Boris Gurman and his 61-year-old wife Sofia took brave action to try to protect others before they were shot.

Video of the incident shows Mr. Gürman, who is retired, wrestling with one of the alleged gunmen and taking the gun from him before they both hit the road.

Mr. Gurman then appears to stand up and shoot the suspected attacker with the gun. The attacker is thought to have another weapon, which he then used to kill them.

“While nothing can lessen the pain of losing Boris and Sofia, we are immensely proud of their courage and dedication,” the family said. he said.

“This sums up who Boris and Sofia are: people who instinctively and selflessly seek to help others.”

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the first two people killed in Sunday’s attack were the Jewish Gurman couple.

It has been confirmed that at least 15 people died in the shooting attack that took place during the event held on the first day of Hanukkah.

The family said in a statement that the couple had been married for 34 years.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden and senseless loss of our beloved Boris and Sofia Gurman.

“Boris was a retired mechanic known for his generosity, quiet strength and willingness to help anyone in need.

“Sofia worked for Australia Post and was deeply loved by her colleagues and community.

“The people of Bondi lived honest, hard-working lives together and treated everyone they met with kindness, warmth and respect. Boris and Sofia were devoted to their family and each other. They were the heart of our family and their absence has left an immeasurable void.”

Witnesses described Mr Gurman as a “hero”.

The woman in charge of the dashcam footage told Reuters that Mr Gurman “did not run away, but instead lunged directly towards the danger, using all his strength to tackle the weapon and fight to the death”.

“I can see through my camera that the old man was shot and collapsed. That moment broke my heart,” he said.

A person who said they witnessed the incident told 9News: “He was a hero. He tried and tried. We need to inform his family.

“Everyone needs to know what he tried, because it was right to begin with. And he put himself in danger. The bullets were flying anyway, and he put himself in danger.”

Other victims include a 10-year-old girl, a British-born rabbi, a retired police officer and a Holocaust survivor.

The victims range in age from 10 to 87.

Police claimed that the attack was carried out by two gunmen: 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram.
