More than two weeks after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home, investigators say a nuance in security footage may offer a new clue. Could the pinky ring be the break investigators need?

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC News that law enforcement is reviewing footage from doorbell camera footage that shows the suspect tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s Ring camera.

“I’m looking at the same photo you’re looking at. [of the person seemingly tampering with Guthrie’s Ring camera]and I see,” said Nanos. “I see.
Referring to what could be a ring visible under the glove, he added, “I’m going to give that to my team. They’ll look at that. They’ll analyze it and we’ll see. Maybe it is [a ring].”
Investigators have not confirmed the details, but according to a report by Page Six, the possibility is being carefully examined as part of a larger investigation.

What happened to the DNA evidence?

The potential clue came as authorities faced a mishap involving DNA analysis. A glove matching the one worn by the suspect was found approximately two miles from Nancy’s home. The item was first tested in Florida and later retested in Arizona.

In neither case did the DNA match any profile in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database.

Sheriff Nanos shared the update on X, explaining that “DNA found on the property was analyzed and further testing is required as part of the investigation.”

It also revealed that the DNA collected did not belong to anyone “close” to Nancy. Savannah Guthrie and her family members, including her siblings Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie, were acquitted. Before that, authorities were “actively vetting everyone,” Page Six reports.

Was Nancy Guthrie targeted?

In an interview with the Today programme, Nanos suggested that the disappearance may not have been random.

“I think this was a person who, for whatever reason, had a goal and made it difficult, but I have some pretty tough detectives, too,” he said.

However, early in the investigation he refused to definitively classify the case, stating: “We don’t know. We will take on both sides. We will look at both sides.”

Authorities also noted that DNA found on Nancy’s property could potentially belong to the suspect, although further analysis is ongoing, according to a report from Newsweek.

Family’s emotional appeal in the face of growing anxiety

While investigators continued their work, Nancy’s children also made heartfelt calls on social media. In a recent Instagram video, Daytime Emmy winner and Today show host Savannah directly addressed her alleged kidnapper.

“It is never too late to do what is right… We believe in the fundamental goodness of every human being,” he said.

Savannah’s friends expressed concern after watching the “deeply disturbing” video. A friend shared: “He looks devastated. He looks like he’s struggling. He can’t be in good shape.”

The emotional toll becomes clear as the search drags on.

With no matches in the CODIS database and the investigation still ongoing, authorities are examining every detail possible, including the pinky ring caught on camera. As forensic testing continues and detectives investigate whether Nancy Guthrie was specifically targeted, her family remains hopeful that answers will come soon.
