Nobel Prize In Medicine Goes To 3 Scientists For Work On Peripheral Immune Tolerance

Stockholm (AP) – Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi won the Nobel Medical Award on Monday for their discoveries on environmental immunity tolerance.

Peripheral immunity tolerance is a way to prevent the body from breaking the immune system and attacking your own tissues instead of foreign invaders.

The Nobel announcements continue on Tuesday with the Physics Award, on Wednesday with the literature on chemistry and Thursday. The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday and the Nobel Memorial Prize on October 13th.

The award ceremony will be held on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. He founded the awards. Nobel was a rich Swedish industrialist and Dynamite inventor. He died in 1896.
