Greggs makes major ‘behind the counter’ change in stores hit by ‘anti-social behaviour’ | UK | News

Greggs has forced major changes to a number of stores where incidents of anti-social behavior have increased. The bakery chain has announced it is discontinuing self-service displays in its new “castle” stores. According to reports, this means staff will deliver food and drinks from a theft-proof counter Sun.
The new change will come into force in stores most affected by theft. This includes West Croydon, Croydon, Peckham, Whitechapel, Upton Park, Birmingham and Wilford. The program could be expanded if it proves to work for both staff and customers.
In a statement, Greggs said: “This is one of a number of initiatives we are trialling in a very small number of stores experiencing higher levels of anti-social behaviour.
“Customers can expect to see all our great value and delicious Greggs favorites served from behind the counter.”
Although Greggs has been subject to thefts at many locations in the UK, it continues to expand across the country.
Recently bosses announced plans to introduce Greggs’ vending machines in the UK, allowing customers to quickly pick up their favorite Greggs treats.
