Nasty Supercars crash leaves photographers needing hospital treatment
Former Supercars series champion Brodie Kostecki was involved in a nasty crash during Gold Coast 500 qualifying that resulted in four photographers being hospitalised.
The Dick Johnson Ford star lost control of his Mustang entering the opening chicane, causing chaos for most drivers during practice and qualifying sessions.
He plunged almost headfirst into the concrete barrier wrapped in car tires. A group of photographers was stationed behind the barrier, absorbing at least some of the impact.
Four people were hospitalized; Two reportedly had ankle injuries, one had an elbow injury, and one had a head injury. It was stated that all of them were in stable condition.
Supercars organizers immediately reacted by issuing a directive banning photographers from using this vantage point.
In an interview with Fox Sports, Kostecki expressed his concerns for photographers.

“Physically I’m fine, but I hope the people behind the barrier are okay, because there are reports that some have been injured,” Kostecki said.
“It clipped the tire bundle and it went under the wheels and went right into the head… bad decision on my part, but when you make a mistake here you pay the price,” he explained.
