The ship was designed to act as a ‘Dolphin Hunter’, focusing on the detection, tracking and neutralization of enemy submarines in coastal areas. It is specifically designed for operations in coastal and shallow water environments. The ministry added that the 77-metre-long ship is equipped with an advanced indigenous ASW suite, including hull-mounted sonar ‘Abhay’, lightweight torpedoes and ASW rockets.

Powered by a high-speed waterjet propulsion system, the warship can reach speeds of up to 25 knots, enabling rapid response and sustained naval operations. He added that in addition to the primary ASW role, the agile platform can also undertake coastal surveillance, Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and search and rescue missions.

Named after the historic Anjadip Island off the coast of Karwar, the induction of the ship will significantly enhance the Navy’s ability to secure India’s vast coastline and maritime interests, including parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. adding Anjadip It reinforces the Navy’s ongoing transformation into a modern, self-reliant and combat-ready force.
