aws outage: AWS outage: Amazon says systems are back online after global internet disruption, releases ‘potential reason’

A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services outage also caused thousands of high-profile apps, websites, and online platforms to crash. “We continue to observe improvement across all AWS services,” the company said.

About three hours after the outage began early Monday morning, Amazon Web Services (AWS) said it had begun to recover, but Amazon said on the AWS health website where it tracks outages that it did not occur “until 6 p.m. ET when services returned to normal operations.”

Amazon Web Services was down worldwide. According to website performance monitoring site Downdetector, more than 15,000 users across different regions were affected by the outage. The company confirmed the service outage. “We can confirm that error rates and delays are increasing for multiple AWS Services in the US-East-1 Region,” the AWS status page states.
According to Downdetector, the outage started around 08:00 UK time (12:30 IST) and the website showed a sharp increase in the outage. Users have also reported issues with various services and websites connected to Amazon’s cloud system, including Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Ring.

What is the possible cause of AWS outage?
Amazon said on its status page: “We have identified a potential root cause of error rates for DynamoDB APIs in the US-EAST-1 Region. Based on our investigation, the issue appears to be related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint in US-EAST-1. We are working on multiple parallel paths to speed recovery. This issue also impacts other AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region.” Global services or features that rely on US-EAST-1 endpoints may also be experiencing issues, such as IAM updates and DynamoDB Global tables. During this time, customers may not be able to create or update Support Cases. We recommend that customers continue to retry failed requests. “We will continue to provide updates when we have more information to share or until 2:45am.” “We have implemented initial mitigations and are observing early signs of recovery for some affected AWS Services. During this time, requests may continue to fail as we work to reach a full resolution. We encourage customers to retry failed requests. There may be additional delays as requests begin to succeed, and some services may have a backlog to work through, which may take additional time to fully process. We will continue to provide updates as we have more information to share or by 3:15 p.m. AM,” Amazon updated.
