West Asia conflict: Over 52,000 Indians returned between March 1-7 after partial opening of airspace

India on Saturday, March 7, 2026, said it is constantly monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia, especially in the context of the safety of its citizens stranded in the region.

More than 52,000 Indians have returned to the country after the partial opening of airspace across the region, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a late night statement.

“Following the partial opening of airspace across the region in the last few days, Indian and foreign airlines are operating commercial flights, including non-scheduled flights, to facilitate the return of Indian passengers on transit or short-term visits in these countries,” the MEA said. he said.

“So far, more than 52,000 Indians have benefited from these flights and traveled safely from the Gulf region to India between March 1-7, of which 32,107 traveled on Indian carriers. More flights are planned in the coming days,” the statement said.

He also urged all Indian citizens in the region to comply with the guidelines of local authorities and advisories issued by Indian missions.

The MEA said the safety and welfare of Indian citizens abroad is the top priority for the government and continues to work with governments in the region to assist all those in need.

The security situation in West Asia remains unstable as the US and Israel continue to bomb Iranian targets and Tehran retaliates with attacks on Israeli positions and US military bases in the region.

“The government of India is constantly monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and the Gulf region with regard to the welfare of Indian citizens stranded there, especially during transit or short-term visits,” the MEA said. he said.

“All Indian citizens in the region are advised to comply with the guidelines of local authorities as well as advisories issued by the Indian embassy or consulate in their region,” the statement said.

MEA said Indian missions in the region have provided detailed advice and set up 24/7 helplines to assist Indians.

“In countries where commercial flight operations are not possible, Indian citizens are advised to contact the relevant embassy/consulate for information and advice on nearest commercial flight options,” the MEA said.
