Nellore Civic Body On High Alert For Cyclone Montha Impact

Nellore: Commissioner YO Nandan said that in view of Cyclone Montha warnings, the Nellore Municipal Corporation has completed all necessary preparations to combat any possible impact.
Addressing the media in his chambers on Monday, the Commissioner said special teams (one for every four districts) have been set up to take precautionary measures and respond quickly in flood-prone areas. Each team consists of officials from the Engineering, Sanitation, Revenue and Urban Planning departments, as well as ten support staff.
He said 14 flood relief and rehabilitation centers were established in municipal schools to accommodate people coming from flood-prone areas. “All necessary facilities will be provided in these centers and people will be shifted safely if necessary,” he assured.
In line with the instructions of municipal administration minister P. Narayana, the ward secretariat staff have also been instructed to actively participate in relief operations under the supervision of administrative secretaries.
The commissioner noted that desludging of major drains, carried out since August under the guidance of minister Narayana and rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, has helped prevent water stagnation in most parts of the city. “Even during heavy rains, flood waters can now flow smoothly,” he added. A command control center and hotline was established at the municipal office to assist the public during the hurricane. Residents can contact 0861-2356777 or 0861-2316777 for immediate assistance.
