New bodies for upliftment of deprived communities

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the establishment of the Karnataka Adivasi Development Corporation for the development of some of the most backward communities among tribal communities, including Irula, Soliga, Jenukuruba, Kadukuruba, Kudiya, Siddi and other vulnerable communities living in and around forest edges.

He announced that the Scheduled Tribes Commission would be set up to hear their grievances and problems. Separately, the Prime Minister has allocated ₹100 crore for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Development Corporation.

In his 17th Budget, the Prime Minister also announced the establishment of a Buddhist Development Corporation under the Department of Social Welfare.

In the year 2026-27, a total of ₹44,632 crore was provided under the Karnataka Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).

In order to promote the educational development of nomadic, semi-nomadic, micro and most micro communities belonging to SC/ST who are deprived of educational opportunities, one residential school and four private residential schools will be opened in each income division.

Mr. Siddaramaiah visited places in Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Belagavi and Kolar. It has announced four KREIS boarding schools with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum to be named after BR Ambedkar. He announced the establishment of a student-led food committee in 50 after-school hostels, assuring hostel students of quality food.

For the financial development of the ST community, the State government has decided to provide fast food truck trailers/mobile kitchen food kiosks.

The budget announced that a high-level committee would be set up under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister to oversee the implementation of Backward Classes programmes, employment and education reservations.

“Ten working women’s hostels with a capacity of 50 each will be opened for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes women in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, Belagavi and Kalaburagi,” the budget said.
