Renters skip hot meals and lower heating to afford energy bills

Dame Clare Moriarty, General Manager of Citizens, said: “Our consultants are preparing for more calls than the tenants stuck in cold, leaking houses this winter.

“It is unacceptable that many tenants are afraid of asking the foundations such as correcting basic doors or replacing them with poor quality single -glazed windows.

“Until 2030, the government should provide the tenant to live in an extremely difficult and expensive house to warm up. And the tenants should be given the security urgently, so that they can ask the landlords to correct the standard residence without fear of retaliation.”

A government spokesman said: “Everyone deserves to live in a warm and comfortable house. Until 2030, we consulted our plans to need specially rented houses to obtain Energy Performance Certificate C or equivalent.

“This can make tenants better than hundreds of pounds, but can lift half a million houses from fuel poverty.

“This winter is urgently moving, more than six million households by expanding the hot home discount of £ 150.”
