Leicester Police order evacuations in UK town centre after potentially hazardous substance found

Police have ordered an evacuation of a city center in England after a potentially dangerous substance was found.

Reports of a potentially hazardous substance being found at the workplace came in around 1pm this afternoon.

A cordon was established at Baxter Gate in Loughborough following the incident.

According to Leicestershire Police, the buildings in question and others nearby were evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency services including police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service are responding to the incident.

According to police, cordons and roads were closed to ensure public safety while emergency services responded to the incident.

No serious injuries have been reported at this time.

“We will provide further updates when possible,” Leicestershire Police said in a statement on Wednesday. “Please avoid the area until further notice.”

According to the social media accounts of Loughborough’s Kinch Bus and Nottingham City Transport, bus routes were diverted in response to the incident.

Images from the scene show that many emergency vehicles and police cordons are ready.

“Police officers came here around 14:00 and said close your doors, no one will be allowed in or out,” an eyewitness said. said Leicestershire Live.

“I didn’t hear anything else. I tried to ask what happened, but they couldn’t tell me.”

“There are a lot of police officers, ambulances, firefighters outside. But I’m not sure what they’re all doing. I haven’t seen the ambulances attending to anyone either. So I have to stay inside for now and no customers can come in. I can’t leave.”

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service advised members of the public to avoid the area, saying: “We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at Baxter Gate in Loughborough. Members of the public should avoid the area and motorists should expect delays.”
