Twenty dead in Russian attack on village, Zelensky says

Local Ukrainian officials, at least 21 people were killed in a Russian air strike in a village east of Ukraine.

President Volodymr Zelensky said that the victims were ordinary people who collected their pensions in Yarova’s Donetsk settlement. Donetsk Regional leader Vadym Filkashkin said that emergency services were at the scene and many people were as injured as much as killed.

Yarova is not far from the front in the north of Sloviansk, one of the major cities in the region, and as the Russian forces slowly progress in the east.

If it is confirmed, the death fee will be among the most severe attacks on Ukrainian civilians, a full -scale invasion of Russia in the last weeks.

At the end of August, at least 23 people died in air strikes overnight in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

At the weekend, Russia launched the largest air strike of the war in Kiev and hit the main government building in the capital, and Zelensky said it was a “brutal” attack aiming to extend the war.

Zelensky, who published the graphic images of the attack on online Yarova, said that it was not “words” to describe the latest Russian strikes. There was no immediate response from the Russian army.

Vadym Filashkin said that the attack took place at 12:30 on Tuesday while retirement salaries were distributed.

Yarova is located on a key line between Lyman and Izium in Donetsk. It is also only 6km (3.6 miles) from the next Novoselivka village, where Russian forces approach the skirts.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said three people died in previous Russian settlements in Donetsk.
