Kavitha launches ‘Janam Baata’ yatra; apologises to families of Telangana Martyrs for ‘10 years of injustice’

Kalvakuntla Kavitha at the Telanagan Martyrs Memorial in Hyderabad on October 25, 2025.
After what he called a harrowing month, after being ‘kicked out’ by the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and its chief and father Telangana Jagruthi chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, she began her four-month long ‘Janam Baata’ yatra from Saturday, October 24, 2025.
Ms. Kavitha, who started the yatra at the Martyrs’ Memorial in front of the Parliament, gave a strong signal to whom she would target during her yatra.
“Many people were martyred in the Telangana movement. Thanks to their sacrifices, we managed to reach Telangana. But we have to ask ourselves this question: Have we really achieved the ideals for which they gave their lives?” he asked.
Ms. Kavitha also blamed herself a bit, saying that despite being an MP and MLC of the BRS party, she could not do much during the BRS regime as she did not have the signature authority. “I confess that I could have fought harder. I sincerely apologize to them today.”
‘Compensation is not given to everyone’
Citing figures presented in Parliament, he recalled that 1,200 activists lost their lives but the promised compensation of ₹10 lakh and government jobs were provided to only 580 families. “Justice was not provided to the remaining families.”
An emotional Ms. Kavitha said that it is very difficult for a woman to succeed in politics as the strongest opposition comes from her near and dear ones. “I have the ambition to be successful and I’m not shy about it. Why would anyone be ashamed of pursuing a political career?” he asked.
Ms. Kavitha’s speech reflected who she was targeting and which party would be on her radar during her tour of villages starting from Nizamabad on Saturday. He represented Nizamabad in Parliament between 2014 and 2019 but was defeated in the subsequent elections.
Miss Kavitha had claimed that the defeat was a conspiracy and the entire BRS cadre was aware of who had betrayed her.
He said that he is open to establishing a political party or working with parties that align with his ideology in order to chart his own path. “I am getting immense support from the Backward Castes for addressing their issue sincerely. This is a support that even I did not expect,” he said.
Ms. Kavitha’s yatra could also herald the formation of a new regional union, as Andhra Pradesh has two regional parties while Telangana asks why not?
