New York Democrat leaders slam Hamas support, chants in Jewish neighborhood

In the video taken during the protest, demonstrators are seen waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans in support of Hamas, which the US government defines as a terrorist organization.
The clip spread widely on social media and was quickly condemned. leaders at the city, state and federal levels.
Ocasio-Cortez harshly criticized both the slogans and the location of the protest.

“Hey, marching into a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and chanting ‘We support Hamas’ is disgusting and anti-Semitic,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote to X.
Hochul also issued a strong rebuke by sharing video of chants for X.
“Hamas is a terrorist organization that calls for genocide against Jews,” Hochul wrote. “Regardless of your political beliefs, this type of rhetoric is disgusting, dangerous and has no place in New York.”

The protest included pro-Hamas demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans in unison.
Mamdani took to the hymns later that day and defended the public while advocating for public safety. right to protest constitutional right.
Mamdani said, “As I said before today, slogans supporting the terrorist organization have no place in our city.” he wrote. “We will continue to ensure the safety of New Yorkers in and out of houses of worship and their constitutional right to protest.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum on Fox News’ The Story last October, Mamdani declined to condemn Hamas, instead turning to discussing affordability for New Yorkers.
Hamas is designated a terrorist organization by the United States, and federal law prohibits providing material support to designated terrorist groups.
New York Attorney General Letitia James also published a short message on social media condemning the chants.

The incident comes as tensions remain high across the country due to protests related to the Israel-Hamas conflict following the October 7, 2023 attacks.
Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
