Newcastle: Club to complain after treatment of fans in Marseille

Newcastle United will complain about the “unacceptable treatment” of their fans by French police following their defeat against Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.
The club will formally report its concerns to UEFA, Marseille and the French police after officers used “unnecessary and disproportionate force” following Tuesday’s Champions League match.
Newcastle said French police used a combination of pepper spray, batons and shields and “many supporters were attacked indiscriminately by police officers”.
The post-match operation was closely observed by Newcastle officials and senior staff.
