Newcastle stadium plans ‘in limbo’ – Eddie Howe

St James was once the country’s second-largest club stadium behind Old Trafford, but Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, West Ham United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton have since surpassed Newcastle’s 52,335-seat ground in terms of capacity.
During this time, a large income gap widened between the establishment and Newcastle; Manchester United made £87 million more in matchday revenue and £219.3 million more in commercial income in 2023-24.
Newcastle’s training ground has been modernized in recent years, including hydrotherapy and plunge pools, a new canteen, players’ lounge and larger changing rooms; However, it remains some distance from the best in the country.
Howe emphasized that “everyone is eager to make this happen.”
But the Newcastle head coach said the club needed to exercise “some patience” to “make sure it is the right solution for everyone” with its youth plans.
He added: “If extra time is being spent making the right decisions to get the stadium project right, and that has been true of Newcastle for however many years the club has been there, then use the extra time.
“It’s the same with the training ground. You need the right pitch and designs. I’d rather get it right than rushed.
“I know there’s a 99.9% chance I won’t see either of them in my position, but I’m still passionate about making sure it’s there for Newcastle’s future generations, whether that’s fans or players.”
