Newlywed couple caught in Bolton head-on crash tragedy suffered ‘unbearable’ life-changing injuries as survivor says ‘I can’t fathom how we’re still alive’

A newlywed couple who survived a crash that killed four people suffered life-changing injuries and were forced to live separately as they both needed 24-hour care.

Georgina Daniels, 28, and her husband Tom, 29, were returning home in a taxi with two friends in the early hours of January 11, 2026, when their vehicle collided head-on with another car. Manchester Evening News reported.

Masrob Ali, 54, the driver of the Citroen C4 Picasso taxi, and three young people in the other car, a red Seat Leon, died in the accident.

While the names of the deceased young people were determined by Manchester Police as 18-year-old Muhammed Jibrael Muhtar, 18-year-old Farhan Patel and 19-year-old Muhammed Danyaal, it was reported that an 18-year-old man in the same vehicle remained in hospital with ‘minor injuries’.

The tragic accident occurred just seven months after Georgina and Tom got married, despite being together for more than 10 years.

Georgina said the couple faced “excruciating” pain and life-changing injuries, with both requiring 24-hour care for “an extended period of time”.

Sales manager Tom has ‘major mobility issues’ and struggles to use stairs.

As a result, the wounds of the newlyweds are so severe that they will have to live separately in the near future.

NHS manager Georgina is shocked they survived the devastation of the crash.

‘I can’t understand how we are all still alive,’ he told the newspaper from his hospital bed. “This should have taken our lives,” he said.

‘After seeing what happened to everyone and the situation we’re in, I have no idea how we’re still here.’

On that fateful evening, the couple went out to say goodbye to two friends who were about to emigrate to Australia.

The couple has undergone four surgeries so far; But Georgina says the mental side of processing the blow is harder than the physical injuries.

Georgina says that although Tom’s memory of the accident is hazy, she remembers it completely and remembers it “as if it had happened 10 minutes ago”.

A. Fundraiser started on GoFundMe to raise money For Georgina, Tom and their two friends who took the taxi and wished to remain anonymous.

The appeal, which has raised more than £40,000 so far, aims to help cover costs while the couple are unable to work and ‘relieve some of the additional pressure on their family, allowing them to focus fully on their recovery’.

It was announced that taxi driver Masrob Ali and three young people traveling in the other vehicle died at the scene.

An estimated 600 mourners traveled from across the UK, including London, Manchester, Bolton and Birmingham, to attend Masrob’s funeral service on Wednesday.

The ceremony was held in a larger mosque instead of Masjid al-Mu’min, Masrob’s local place of worship, due to the large number of people expected to attend.

Masrob’s body was carried wrapped in a shroud. His wife and children were there and they later walked the short distance back to the family home after the ceremony.

A private funeral service was planned for 3pm that day at Pleasington Cemetery.

The day after the crash, Detective Inspector Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘We are still in the early stages of our investigation and are continuing to work to establish the full circumstances of this horrific incident.

‘As an investigation team we would encourage people to be careful about sharing images on social media, given the impact it will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident.

‘Sharing such images may constitute a crime. Thanks to patrols in the area, teams were able to quickly reach the scene, which was particularly challenging for their colleagues in the emergency services.

‘I would like to thank first responders and the Road Policing Unit in our Bolton area for their hard work since this incident, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service.

‘The scene closed on Sunday evening, but we are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

‘Anyone who saw the vehicle moving before the collision, witnessed the incident personally, or has dashcam/CCTV footage of the incident can share this with us.’
