NFL news: Rams’ Matthew Stafford surpasses Tom Brady after TD pass

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford broke an NFL record early in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Stafford took the Rams’ first drive and found wide receiver Davante Adams going 4-of-5 on a 4-yard touchdown pass to cap off a six-play, 35-yard drive. It was Stafford’s 28th touchdown pass without an interception, breaking the record previously set by Tom Brady.

On the drive, Adams completed passes to Puka Nacua and Colby Parkinson.
But Stafford’s impressive streak ended on the second drive when Panthers linebacker Nick Scott intercepted a pass in the end zone. He threw an interception to Mike Jackson Sr. on the next drive. The Carolina player then returned the ball for a touchdown.

Stafford entered the game with the best odds to win NFL MVP. He led the NFL with 30 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. Entering the 13th week of the season, he joins Patrick Mahomes as the only players in NFL history with at least 30 touchdown passes and just two or fewer interceptions.
Los Angeles was 9-2 on the season and looking for its 10th win to strengthen its grip on the NFC.
According to NFL Research, the Super Bowl champion quarterback still had a few more milestones to accomplish.

He could become the third NFL player in league history to attempt at least 25 passes and not throw an interception in nine consecutive games. He also would have become the fourth player in NFL history to throw multiple touchdown passes and no interceptions in six consecutive games.
