CM Vijay Remembers ‘Kaviarasu’ Kannadasan on His Birth Anniversary

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday paid tribute to poet-lyricist ‘Kaviarasu’ Kannadasan on his birth anniversary, saying he left an indelible mark on Tamil literature and film music.
The CM said that through his works, Kannadasan conveys emotions, philosophical thoughts and social awareness about human life in simple Tamil and occupies an eternal place in people’s hearts.
In his post about ‘X’, Vijay said, “I have deep respect and greetings to Kaviarasu Kannadasan… His works shine as a literary treasure that transcends ages and guides generations. As long as the Tamil language exists, Kannadasan’s fame and literary works will last forever.” he said.
Kannadasan (24 June 1927 – 17 October 1981) is celebrated as the Kaviarasu King of Poets.
During his illustrious writing career spanning more than four decades, he penned more than 5,000 film songs and 4,000 poems and wrote approximately 232 books.
Born as Muthiah Sathappan Chettiar, Kannadasan made a name for himself by writing for the big screen with lines crafted to suit scenes, moods and moments. But movie songs have always evolved beyond the original short texts into something much larger than the situations that inspired them.
He became the first person to receive the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in 1969 for the film ‘Kuzhanthaikkaga’ and was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 for his novel ‘Cheraman Kadali’.
His ‘Arthamulla Indhu Matham’ is considered an enduring religious classic.
