NHS worker sexually assaulted two patients during hospital procedures | UK | News

An NHS worker has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two patients at a hospital in Wales. Ieuan Crump, who worked as a trainee healthcare worker at a hospital in Cwmbran in August 2021, was found guilty of nine charges of sexual assault on November 19.
While working at Grange Hospital, 27-year-old Crump assaulted two different patients on separate occasions while performing bladder scans as part of his job. WalesOnline reports. Crump was tried for the same crimes in 2024, but the cases collapsed after more than two weeks.
At the latest hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, the jury heard evidence from one of the victims who said Crump, who denies all charges against him, sexually assaulted her with his finger in front of a female healthcare worker who was trying to insert a catheter into the patient’s bladder.
The court heard Crump returned to the room alone, without his female colleague, and said he needed to check for any swelling. He then repeated the previous sexual assault.
A second victim also told the court Crump touched her genitals during a bladder scan and asked if they were painful. She also spread her legs during the procedure.
Crump’s defense attorney, Marian Lewis, called the defendant “a man of impeccable character.”
After deliberating for less than three hours on Wednesday, November 19, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts.
He was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault, including three counts of assault by penetration.
Crump was granted bail until the sentencing date but Judge Vanessa Franci addressed him directly, saying: “Inevitably, I will give you some lengthy prison sentence.”
He will also be required to temporarily sign the sex offender registry until his sentencing hearing on Dec. 18.
