New details emerge of how Rob and Michele Singer Reiner’s bodies were found | Film

New details have emerged about the deaths of film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were found Sunday in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles.

A report in the New York TimesQuoting an unnamed “person close to the family”, he says that the massage therapist who came for an appointment first raised the alarm when he could not make the appointment on Sunday. The therapist contacted their daughter, Romy Reiner, who lived nearby, who entered the home and found Rob Reiner’s body. Romy “fled the house in agony” without realizing her mother’s body was also inside, and the roommate who accompanied her called 911, the Times said. Emergency responders later found the body of Michele Singer Reiner.

Authorities charged the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon, a knife. He is currently being held without bail.

The person quoted by the Times also disputed some previously reported details. He said Romy told emergency responders that Nick was living in a guesthouse on the property, but did not name him as a potential suspect at the time.

The source also disputed widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner were particularly “concerned” about Nick’s behavior in recent weeks, saying the family was “used to working anxiously.” [Nick’s] This also includes reports of Nick’s “erratic” behavior at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien, held the night before the Reiners’ bodies were found. While the source was not in a position to say whether Rob “scolded” his son for his disruptive behavior at the party, he said claims that the pair had a “heated argument” were untrue.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Tuesday that the medical examiner has not yet determined whether Reiners died late Saturday or Sunday. Media reports claimed that the condition of their bodies indicated that they had been dead for several hours.

Nick Reiner was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the Exposition Park neighborhood, about 15 miles away. He was due to appear in court for a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said he had not received medical leave and would not appear in court until Wednesday at the earliest.
