Bodycam footage shows the moment the mother was arrested after shaking her 3-month-old daughter to death.

Kaylani Kalanzi was hospitalized after being severely shaken by a blow to her head on July 8, 2024. The baby suffered catastrophic brain injuries, as well as a broken leg and ribs, and died in hospital two weeks later.

In the footage published by the Metropolitan Police, his mother Nazlı Merthoca can be seen denying any involvement in the incident.

Prosecutor Zoe Johnson KC said Merthoca “lost her temper with the baby after accumulating factors” and “defied” social workers who tried to help her.

Merthoca, 24, of Homerton High Street, Hackney, stood trial for her death and in October a jury cleared him of murder but found him guilty of the lesser alternative charge of manslaughter. He has been in prison for nine and a half years.
