Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Are Officially Divorced After 19 Years of Marriage

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are divorced and legally single, ending the 19-year marriage of one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent power couples.
A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, ordered the annulment of the marriage of the Oscar-winning actor and Grammy-winning country singer during a hearing on Tuesday.
In her file to the court, Judge Stephanie J. Williams said that the couple’s agreement regarding the division of assets and child custody was sufficient and gave them a divorce decision.
“There are irreconcilable differences between the parties that make the continuation of the marriage impracticable and impossible,” Williams wrote.
Both Kidman and Urban waived their right to attend the hearing.
Messages seeking comment to his representatives were not immediately responded to.
Kidman filed for divorce in September. The superstars’ departure came as a surprise to much of the public, but it’s clear it’s been in the works for a while. All legal issues regarding assets and custody were resolved and signed the same day the application was filed.
Tennessee requires a 90-day waiting period for couples with minor children before the divorce can go into effect.
Kidman and Urban (both 58) have two teenage daughters. In their divorce application, it was stated that they had “marital problems and irreconcilable differences”.
The plan they signed states that Kidman will be the primary parent of the children. He suggested that they would continue to live in Nashville as they had their entire lives. The application states that neither parent will need child or spousal support and notes that joint assets are divided roughly equally.
Kidman and Urban, two of the biggest stars to emerge from Australia in recent years, met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. They were a fixture on the red carpet throughout their two-decade relationship, with Urban attending the Oscars with his wife and Kidman attending music events like the Academy of Country Music Awards. The couple had publicly but lovingly described some of the difficulties in their marriage, but there were still few signs that a divorce was imminent.
This marriage was the first for Urban and the second for Kidman, who was married to Tom Cruise between 1990 and 2001. Kidman also has two older children with Cruise.
