Jamie George: Former England captain to retire at end of 2026-27

Former England captain Jamie George will retire at the end of 2027 after agreeing a one-year contract extension with Saracens.

In the statement made by the club, it was stated that George will complete the 2026-27 season for the Prem club, retire that year and step into a new career in the “business world”.

The 35-year-old played 105 times for England and served as Maro Itoje’s vice-captain after captaining his country in 2024.

The hooker was also selected for the British and Irish Lions in three rounds and made over 300 appearances for Saracens, spending his entire career at the London club.

“I’ve always been very open and honest, and I wanted to continue to do that in my retirement,” George said.

“I’m sure it seems premature to announce another season, but I want to make sure I enjoy every moment of my final season – I’m more motivated than ever to finish my career successfully at Saracens.”
