BBC chief Samir Shah expected to apologize for the way he spoke Donald Trump It was edited for Panorama after several days of pressure on the publisher led to the resignation of managing director Tim Davie.
Deborah Turness, chief executive of BBC News, also announced her resignation on Sunday after the company was accused of misleading the public following allegations that the conversation was selectively edited in the documentary.
A note from Michael Prescott, a former external adviser to the BBC’s broadcasting standards committee, revealed in the summer that clips of the US president’s January 6, 2021 speech Trump: A Second Chance? to show that he told his supporters he would march with them to the U.S. Capitol to “fight like hell.”
Critics said the documentary, aired by the BBC a week before last year’s US election, was misleading and that the section in which the US president said he wanted supporters to demonstrate peacefully was removed.
Mr Shah is expected to apologize and provide more details about the Panorama episode on Monday in his response to the Culture Media and Sport Committee, which asked how he would address concerns.
