Serena Williams To Play Singles at Wimbledon After Accepting Wild Card Invitation

London: The All England Club announced on Sunday that Serena Williams will play singles at Wimbledon after accepting the wild card invitation.

The move comes after Williams, 44, recently returned to doubles competition after nearly four years away from professional tennis.

This means Williams will play both singles and doubles at Wimbledon after accepting the wild card for the doubles competition with her older sister Venus.

“This is not a drill,” Wimbledon said on its social media accounts.

Serena’s last singles match was a loss to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open. He said at the time that he did not want to use the word “retire” and instead declared that he had “evolved” from tennis.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, including seven at Wimbledon. He also won 14 Grand Slams in doubles; all of these were with Venus and six of them were at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon starts in eight days.

Serena won her doubles match with partner Victoria Mboko at the Queen’s Club last week but the pair were forced to withdraw after Mboko suffered a knee injury in their singles match.

In another doubles match at the Berlin Open on Tuesday, Serena and partner Carolina Muchova lost to Giuliana Olmos and Erin Routliffe.
