Indian Diplomat Found Dead Inside Mission in Bangladesh’s Chattogram

Dhaka: An official of the Indian High Commission in Chattogram, Bangladesh, was found dead inside the mission premises on Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Naren Dhar, who served as Deputy Protocol Officer in the Indian mission.
“We were told that he was Naren Dhar and that he was serving as deputy protocol officer on duty,” Aminur Rashid, the port city’s police spokesman, told reporters.
He said the official was in his late 30s. His body was found early in the morning in front of the bathroom door on the second floor of the former visa center building of the diplomatic mission.
Neither the Indian High Commission in Dhaka nor the Deputy High Commission in Chattogram have so far made any comment on the death, which police initially suspected may have been caused by cardiac arrest.
“However, the autopsy report will confirm the cause of death,” said Rashid, the city’s Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He said that in the morning, the police reached the scene immediately after receiving the news and sent the body to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after completing the necessary formalities as he was a foreign national serving in a diplomatic mission.
Police said that based on the information received, Dhar came from Chandigarh.
