One of the most impressive streaks in sports history, let alone the NBA, came to an end Thursday night.
LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, failed to score 10 or more points in a regular season game for the first time since his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 5, 2007. This streak ended with 1,297 games, the longest streak of all time.
James had a chance to keep the streak alive with a game-winning basket, but instead he assisted on Rui Hachimura’s three-pointer, helping the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 123-120.

Michael Jordan’s second-longest hitting streak ever is 866. Kevin Durant, 37, is the new active leader with 267 games played.
James knew he was risking the end of the streak with a pass, but it was the “perfect” way to end the streak.
“We won,” he said after the match.
“I always play the right game. Win, lose or draw is automatic,” added James. “You’re playing the right game; the gaming gods always reward me.”
James was later praised for his unselfish play.

“He’s a very unselfish player,” Lakers center Jake LaRavia said. via ESPN. “He’s just playing basketball. He had the opportunity, but because of his playfulness and his personality, he showed an unselfish play, passed it on to Rui, and we won the game.”
“You have to take your hat off to a guy who cares about winning and making the right play,” added Austin Reaves. “That’s what he’s done his entire career.”
James was also criticized for passing the ball at key moments, but said “it was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard”.

“We’re in the business of winning basketball games, and that’s how I’ve played the game my whole life,” James said. “That’s how I was taught the game. That’s how I played the game and won at every level I played.”
