Putin in India: Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting India for the first time in four years. He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi, following his ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan and a triple guard of honour.

Putin had arrived in Delhi on Thursday and Prime Minister Modi broke protocol to meet him on the tarmac. Prime Minister Modi welcomed Russian President Putin with a hug after his arrival at Palam Airport.

Both leaders drove the same car to Prime Minister Modi’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence, where Putin was gifted a copy of the holy Bhagwad Gita.
India-Russia Joint Statement
In a joint statement with Putin, Prime Minister Modi praised the Russian President’s far-sighted leadership in deepening India-Russia ties and said the friendship remains unshakable despite global challenges.
1- He announced that the countries are discussing an ‘Economic Cooperation Program’ until 2030 and are working towards the early conclusion of a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union.
Prime Minister Modi said, “In the last eighty years, the world has witnessed many ups and downs. Humanity has had to go through many challenges and crises. In the midst of all this, the India-Russia friendship has remained unshakable like a pole star. These relations, based on mutual respect and deep trust, have always stood the test of time. 2- The Prime Minister also shared that India and Russia have agreed on an ‘Economic Cooperation Programme’ by 2030, which will diversify, balance and make trade and investment sustainable.
3- Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about the India-Russia Business Forum scheduled to be held today to serve as a platform for further strengthening trade ties between the two countries.
“It will open new doors to exports, joint production and joint innovation. Both parties are working for the early conclusion of a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union.”
4- Prime Minister Modi said, “25 years ago, President Putin laid the foundation of the India-Russia strategic partnership. 15 years ago, our relationship was upgraded to a special and privileged strategic partnership. He has continuously nurtured the relationship over the last 25 years.” he said.
5- Prime Minister Modi underlined India-Russia cooperation on energy and said that the two countries will continue this by expanding into areas such as critical minerals.
Putin will attend the India-Russia business forum and launch RT channel in India before attending a banquet in his honor by President Droupadi Murmu. The Russian President is scheduled to leave the country later this evening.
