The first set of No Kings protests took place in June 2025, as did my colleague Rachel Leingang., Andrew Gumbel and Melissa Hellmann was reported at the time. The events took place at the same time as Donald Trump’s military parade in Washington DC on his 79th birthday.
As tanks and soldiers paraded through the streets of Washington on Saturday, several million people gathered across the country to protest the excesses of Donald Trump’s administration.
Protests called “No to Kings” were held approximately 2,100 sites Nationwide, from big cities to small towns. A. coalition More than 100 groups came together to plan the protests, which adhered to the principle of nonviolence.
This week, the president deployed the National Guard and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles to quell protesters demonstrating against increased deportations, defying state and local authorities in a show of military force not seen in the United States since the civil rights era. Organizers said interest in Saturday’s protests, including some near Trump’s south Florida Mar-a-Lago estate, increased as a result.

What to know about the third No Kings protests

This is the third series of protests across the US since Donald Trump was re-elected as president. My colleague Lex McMenamin explains what there is to know about the recent protests:
Millions of people expected to protest Trump administration in more than 3,000 protests There is no king Events in cities and small towns across the country on Saturday. Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, one of the groups coordinating No Kings, said he expected it to be “the largest protest in American history.”
This will be the third No Kings protest since Trump’s re-election. A flagship event will be held in Minnesota’s Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul after residents resisted the influx of federal immigration agents the Trump administration sent to the area earlier this year. In January, agents killed two residents, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were observing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.
Levin said in January that the third No Kings was a response to many Americans’ growing anger at ICE and the “reign of terror” that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has imposed on communities across the country. Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Invisible, recently told the Guardian that the Iran war was also motivating people to take to the streets.
“Each No Kings will be about the issues that most move people at that moment,” Greenberg said, “but also about the collective ways in which they begin to undermine our democracy.”
