Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced a complete boycott of the ongoing winter session of the Telangana Assembly, alleging unilateral behavior of the Speaker and undemocratic behavior of the Congress government.
BRS MPs staged a protest in Gun Park after leaving Parliament on Friday, January 2, 2026; here former Minister T. Harish Rao addressed the media and alleged that opposition members were humiliated and their rights usurped. “It was obvious that they were kept waiting for more than an hour for the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting,” he said, accusing the Speaker of distorting the agreed minutes regarding the duration of the House session.
Mr. Harish Rao alleged that BRS members’ microphones were turned off when they tried to question the Government during Question Hour, terming it as a direct attack on democratic norms. “There is no point in convening the Parliament if the Prime Minister is not allowed to be questioned,” he said.
The former Minister also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of using inappropriate language and body shaming in the Assembly. He claimed that the House was run like a party office rather than a legislative forum.
Touching on the issue of Musi River Rejuvenation, Mr. Harish Rao said that BRS is ready for a full-fledged discussion and questioned the Government’s silence on important issues, including compensation to displaced families and use of Godavari water. He emphasized that the previous BRS government had constructed 32 sewage treatment plants and had sent proposals to the Center for 39 more plants.
He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi publicly carried the Constitution while ignoring the Telangana government’s actions, which Mr. Rao claimed were anti-democratic and undermined the Telangana Assembly.
Claiming that the government is full of arrogance and the Speaker of the Parliament shows signs of bias, the BRS leader announced that the party will boycott the Parliament session.
