‘No offsets, no excuses’: the pursuit of real zero

Five years ago, companies of each shape and size set clear zero targets.
Reality has captured many since then, Claire Snyder, Director of Climate Integrity, and some had little intention to follow their promises.
According to the Head of the National Defense Organization established in 2024, it is easy to determine the net zero commitment target to encourage transparency, accountability and commitment to climate science.
Nevertheless, not all businesses treat climate commitments as a marketing exercise.
Lendlease, IKEA and Fortescie were selected by the non -profit research group for “real zero” leaderships, the second is the only heavy emitting industrial company that does not target fossil fuel in the world.
Unlike the “Net Zero ön which allows companies to neutralize emissions by dipping money into growing trees and other carbon cutting projects, they are not allowed to leave carbon through carbon through“ real zero ”clean technologies.
Initially, the last re -organized for sectors without emission technology options, offices have been a way to make little effort to indecision while throwing money in green projects since then.
While the fans directed funds to clean energy and reorganizing, a number of reliability and permanence concerns have emerged, and Energyustralia was forced to apologize for using “carbon neutral” products from customers recently.
For Ms. Snyder, the ambition in the United States, in which they were experiencing political and legal pressure to raise climate leaders and abandon their environmental policies and activities of enterprises, was very important.
Although not completely immune, Australian -based companies can create some distance and produce less abandoned or diluted climate commitments.
Lendlease Sustainability President Cate Harris said it was at full stage for his company, which has been carved in carbonalization targets for years.
AAP, “Especially in our industry is a little insulation, the green building movement is currently over 20 years of age,” he said.
Construction and real estate giant has a temporary net zero carbon target for scope 1 and 2 emissions until 2025.

It is a long -term “absolute zero” plan that will see that the real estate giant eliminates emissions without offset, including those produced in the construction of building materials.
Steel, concrete, glass and aluminum are known to be known as “embodied carbon olarak, because it is out of direct control of the company and is based on suppliers who invest in green production lines.
“In fact, it was probably four of the sectors difficult to challenge globally,” he said.
Harris reported “Green Exiles ve in all four materials and was sure that the real estate company could meet 2040 decarabation targets.
“No offset, no excuse,” he said.
Ms. Snyder, except for the protection mechanism for large pollutants, the search for emission reduction is largely participated and a voluntary event, he said.
Even this, based on the latest data, “emissions have a very low and moderate impact,” he said.

Green washing and climatic knowledge of transparency of regulatory regulators should be compulsory, he said.
“Unless it is compulsory, we will not see the change we need to see at the speed we need to see.”
Initially, it was established as a government -level commitment within the scope of the International Paris Climate Agreement to limit the heating by 1.5C or much below 2C, and Net Zero has never been intended to adopt by companies.
To pursue carbon neutrality by 2050 – that is, to cut emissions anywhere where possible, and then to resist the sectors that do not have legitimate options for reliable carbon dioxide extraction strategies – is the key to achieving Australia’s temperature targets.
