No shortage of energy in India: Minister Hardeep Puri

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri on Friday, March 6, 2026, said that there is no energy shortage in India and there is no cause for concern for energy consumers.

While Russia accounted for only 0.2% of India’s total crude imports in 2022, this share increased significantly in subsequent years. “In February, India imported around 20% of its total crude oil imports from Russia, which works out to around 1.04 million barrels per day,” government sources said.

On the LPG front, the government has instructed all LPG refineries to increase production to ensure adequate availability across the country. Officials said India is currently in a comfortable position regarding LPG stocks.

Sources said that LPG from the USA started arriving in India from January. Indian PSU Oil companies signed a one-year contract in November 2025 to import around 2.2 MTPA of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for contract year 2026.
