Assam poll results ‘extremely disappointing’, will take full responsibility: Gaurav Gogoi

His remarks came as the Congress held a review meeting with the newly elected MLAs.

“The results of the last Assam Assembly polls are extremely disappointing. I have already said that I will take full responsibility for this,” Gogoi told reporters.
He added that he had communicated the same to the party high command and stated that the party has already started an internal review process.
“I have also contacted the high command and it is the duty of the high command to decide on the future course of action in terms of organizational restructuring and outline the next few steps. At the same time, we have already initiated an internal review process… I think next month we will try to identify the real reasons that could explain this particular 2026 result,” he added.
These remarks came after the BJP-led NDA won a landslide victory in the Assam elections. The state will have its third consecutive NDA government.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gained a strong mandate in the state, winning 102 seats against the opposition’s 75 seats. While the BJP won 82 seats, its allies AGP and BOPF won 10 seats each, taking the NDA’s total tally to 102. While the opposition Mitrajoot from INC got 19 seats, Raijor Dal got only 2 seats, while AJP could not get even a single seat. Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Dilip Saikia on Thursday announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new state government will be held at Guwahati’s Khanapara Ground on May 12 at 11 am and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest.
Saikia said the swearing-in ceremony of Assam’s next Chief Minister will mark the formation of a new government following the NDA’s strong electoral performance in the state.
