Following the launch of the murder investigation, Chief Inspector Nick Waldram said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time. They are supported by specially trained officers.

“Detectives are currently working to understand exactly what happened before, during and after this incident.

“They would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything that could assist our investigations.

“No matter how unimportant you think your information is, we want to hear from you.

“People in the area will understandably be concerned, but we currently believe this is an isolated incident that does not pose a greater risk to the public.

“We know the impact this incident will have on the local community and so we will be increasing patrols to provide reassurance while investigations continue.”
